Ozone Efficacy Research - Great Idea for Home Improvements | Water Filtration Systems
77Mother Nature invented it.
Los Angeles uses it.
Canada mandates it for commercial swimming pools.
Hot tubs use it.
It all started with Oudshoorn, Netherlands in 1893 - what is it? Ozone for non-chemical disinfection in the water.
Los Angeles, California is one of the world's largest water treatment plants and treats over 350 million gallons a day1.
Ozone is an affordable and effective method to purify and/or santize water.
Until now ozone has only been available with large generators. Thanks to new technology coupled with state of the art microchip, ozonated water is becoming a household term beyond just the hot tub.

Ozone is Mother Nature's Purification Process
This article will explore the chemical changes that occur with ozone and compile a list of resources that document the efficiency of ozone.
Ozone was Discovered Not Invented
Ozone is not an invention. Ozone was a discovery. Ozone occurs naturally in nature. Mankind first used high voltage to mimic Mother Nature. Imagine the world before the computer and the Internet - the same scenario is true for the progression from
1. Mother Nature's Ozone
2. High Voltage Ozone
3. Layered Ozonated Water
The pinnacle of achievement is the 3rd level. Imagine a water filter combined with the natural sanitizer - the same sanitizer used by Mother Nature. Layered ozonated water delivers the strength, stability and the safety of layered ozonated water. Ozone plus state of the art water filtration - delivering the highest quality point of use water filtration in the world.
Ozone and Atmospheric Ozone
Ozone and the atmosphere have many misconceptions. The myths and the truths are exposed in more detail here: Atmospheric Ozone Myths Exposed
Ozonated Water is A Non-Chemical Sanitizer
Ozonated water is a non-chemical sanitizer. Just as ozone molecules purify the upper atmosphere, so too, ozonated water offers a non-chemical alternative to chemical disinfectants. The question is it effective? The great answer is yes - with many studies to support the claims. Note: There are no "cures" states here - just the efficacy of the bacteria destruction.
Efficacy Studies on Ozone Non-Chemical Alternative
The links below are just a starting point for the many clinical studies on ozone efficacy. Remember, efficacy is the effectiveness of the ozone not the "efficiency" of ozone. And while ozone is more efficient and quicker than even chlorine, the efficacy is the real gem of ozone. Ozone kills by lysing - exploding the bacteria and cells from the center.
- Efficacy of ozonated water against various food-related microorganisms -- Restaino et al. 61 (9): 34
Antimicrobial effects of ozonated water in a recirculating concurrent reactor were evaluated against four gram-positive and four gram-negative bacteria, two yeasts, and spores of Aspergillus niger. More than 5 log units each of Salmonella typhimur

- Ozone Mold and Bacterial Killing Studies - Mold-Kill.com
"Experiments performed by the authors have found that high bacteria death rates can be achieved with airborne ozone. In these experiments, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) cultures on plates were inserted in a test chamber through wh

- Visible Difference Cool Ozonated Verses Warm Water
304 stainless steel metal plates were cleaned, passivated, and soiled by autoclaving (121C at 15 psi for 15 min) with reconstituted nonfat dry milk (20% solids). Fifteen-minute treatments using either warm water (40C) or ozonated treatments... - Ozonated Water 47% More Effective
point was assessed. As judged by 2-(p-iodo-phenyl)-3-(p-nitrophenyl)-s-phenyl tetrazolium chloride (INT) reduction, the dehydrogenase activity in biofilter systems that were operated with non-ozonated water was 55% lower than in identical filters ope - ion chromatographic determination of carboxylic acids in ozonated drinking water
A direct ion chromatographic method of measuring carboxylic acids was modified and expanded to include measurement of eight components at parts-per-billion levels. These components, listed by eluting order, were acetate, propionate, formate, pyruvate - Shrimp Grow-Out Ponds and Ozonation
In order to derive the full benefits of ozonation technology for the destruction of toxic metabolites in shrimp grow-out ponds, strategies to supplement and control high alkalinity loss during ammonia oxidation in a model ozonation system were studie - Ozonated Water and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Polyethylene (PE) and Stainless Steel Surfaces
The formation of biofilm on polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) and stainless steel surfaces was studied in bank infiltrated and chemically purified waters without (control water) and with ozonation. Ozonation increased the concentration of a - Ozonated Water Soft and Hard Wheat Samples
Soft and hard wheat samples were tempered using ozonated water (1.5 and 11.5 mg ozone/l). Milling (rate of extraction), rheological (farinograph and extensograph characteristics), chemical (protein, falling number, sedimentation volume), colour (Hunt - UV and Ozonated Water Study on Fish Pathogenic Viruses
Important fish pathogenic viruses, including infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV), Atlantic halibut nodavirus (AHNV) and infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISAV), were exposed to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation or ozonated seawater in a laboratory - Vegetables and Ozonated Water
The present study investigated the degradation of four pesticides by low-concentration of dissolved ozone in order to establish the effect of operational parameters. The results indicated that dissolved ozone (initial concentration of 1.4 mg/l) was e - Ozonated Water and Oysters
Effects of ozonated water and chitosan treatment on the shelf-life extension of Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) stored at 5 1 C were studied. Results indicated that ozonated water treatment reduced the total microbial load of fresh oysters by - E coli 0157:H7 Selected Product and Chlorine Dioxide, Ozone and Thyme Essential Oil
Chlorine dioxide (ClO2), ozone, and thyme essential oil has been found to be effective in reducing pathogens, including Escherichia coli O157:H7, on selected produce. The efficacy of these sanitizers was evaluated, alone or through their sequential w
Bromate and Ozonated Water Research Resources
- Bromate Quantification In Drinking Water
Health effects studies suggest that bromate should be regulated at 0.5 g/l or less in drinking water. Accordingly, an analytical method is needed to quantify this contaminant with great sensitivity and selectivity. Past efforts to do this have focus - Ammonia Can Inhibit Formation of Bromate in Ozonated Drinking Water
Ammonia can inhibit the formation of bromate in ozonated drinking water by reacting with free bromine (HOBr/OBr), an intermediate in bromate formation, to form bromamines. Bromamines do not participate in bromate formation, however, they will decay - Chemical Kinetics Model Bromate Forms Saline Waters
A preliminary chemical kinetics model is presented for simulating the temporal variations of the hypobromous acid and bromate forms in saline waters under the influence of ozone (O3). The model uses the basic principle of mass balance and considers
- Escherichia coli Inactivation by Water-Soluble, Ozonated C60 Derivative: Kinetics and Mechanisms
Antibacterial and bactericidal effects of a C60 derivative prepared via excess ozonation of C60 aggregates in water were investigated using Escherichia coli as a representative microorganism. Ozonated C60 up to 10 mg/L did not cause significant growt
